How to unlock your Teepee & Sperry Tent wedding design by Knot & Pop
So you’re feeling excited and inspired – perhaps with a touch of adrenalin-induced anxiety? How do you calm your nerves without quashing your creativity?! Introducing the lovely Susie of Knot & Pop – in this blog post Susie helps you bring your Teepee and Sperry Tent dreams to life, whilst still injecting personality and style into your wedding day…
Where do you start before getting lost in Pinterest for hours, even days? The Instagram addiction can be even stronger with endless wedding hashtag combinations, leading you to streams of wedding inspo.
So to make life a little simpler, we’ve created a Knot & Pop wedding guide to help unlock your wedding design and style.
FINDING YOUR FEET
So where to begin?
Go back to basics and think about what brought you together as a couple. Spend an evening sitting down with your partner and get into some serious reminiscing.
Some of the best wedding design schemes (we shy away from using the word theme) come directly from shared experiences and loves. If you have memories of dancing your summers away in muddy meadows together, why not have a free-spirited festival theme for your wedding with Teepee tent to suit. Imagine having an outdoor ceremony with a giant Teepee draped in fairy lights and log stools surrounding a big fire-pit – if the thought of that gets you both excited, you know you’re onto a winner.
It doesn’t have to be one particular experience. Brainstorm all the things that sum you up as both individuals, and as a couple.
It could be a shared love of winter walks or even a style of music that gets you on the dance-floor. Once the memories and ideas start flowing, you’ll be well on the way to pinning down the feel and style of day that’s right for you both.
For our couples we often don’t have a set ‘theme’, more a happy marriage of a few key elements that bring about a unique wedding design and setting for the day.
For some, the wedding scheme is about creating a timeless look and feel that will stand the test of time, and for others, it’s about creating a snapshot of the time and place – the here and now, with no idea or colour too bright or bold. Knowing where you fall on that scale really helps you to define ideas. PapaKåta’s Sperry Tents are perfect for a classic timeless look – with their awe-inspiring silhouette and beautiful oyster-coloured canvas creating a light, bright backdrop for any style or theme.
PIN, SNIP & SNAP
Once you’ve got initial ideas floating about, start looking for inspiration. You don’t have to stick to one rigid concept for now; start building up a couple of ideas and you’ll soon work out which one has legs.
There are lots of visual resources you can use these days. Pinterest of course, but beware of inspiration overload! Try to keep focus to build up a selection of curated images that really translate your ideas, otherwise, it’s easy to get confused.
Don’t forget to turn to wedding, fashion, lifestyle magazines and blogs. You’re bound to come across countless trend posts in your search and whilst we love a trend or two, don’t let these dictate your choices. It’s all about creating something that YOU love, not what the magazines are tipping as a top trend.
Once you’ve narrowed down your theme to THE one, it’s time to get organised.
For every project we take on, we always create a scene setter mood board to sum up the overall look. It’s the perfect reference point for you to look back on when you’re getting down to the nitty-gritty.
This over-arching mood board can be expanded further to touch on creative aspects such as food and drink presentation, florals, tabletop styling, wedding stationery and more – so that aspects fuse harmoniously with one another.

INSPIRATION TO REALITY
It’s time to make your ideas come to life. From caterers, to stationers, to florists and more, you’ll want an A-team appointed to bring together your big day.
Keep everyone in the know by giving suppliers a visual and written brief. If they understand the look you’re going for it’ll help the whole wedding design tie together seamlessly and avoid any misunderstandings. They may also come with some suggestions to add and enhance your ideas.
Sourcing items to fit a specific design can have its moments. We’ve had our fair share of head in hands days searching what feels like every inch of the internet and shops for just the right item. Be open to therefore bend and flex on certain details, and if it can’t be found then there are lots of skilled makers out there to take on commissions. We’ve made dip-dyed napkins, marble candles, table plan installations, DJ booths, signage and more for our couples, so when we can’t find it, we make it!
