Are you having an at-home wedding? As soon as I hear one of my brides is hosting a home marquee wedding I get so excited. For me, there is nothing more personal or unique. Who else can replicate your wedding? It will be so special.

As a wedding photographer, I want to be able to tell the story of your day and capture all of the little moments and details. The opportunities are endless with the blank canvas that your PapaKåta Sperry Tent or Teepee will provide.

From a photographers perspective, I wanted to highlight some top tips which will help you to get the best photographs.

Weather – plan for the worst and anything else is a bonus, something I tell all of my couples. Wet weather doesn’t stop me, as a photographer, it’s an aspect of your day that I will document. Have some funky flats or trainers that you can slip into for bridal couple shots and a few big white umbrellas.

I love that the PapaKåta Sperry Tents have clear sides and that you can raise the sides of your Teepees and your guests will too! It will shelter you from any wind to please them, but also allow in lots of natural light which will please me!

Space  – with the weather in mind, do you have enough space if your guests aren’t able to enjoy an outdoor drinks reception? Some couples prefer an extra tent, others choose a healthily sized dance floor area which can double up as a reception area. As a photographer, I’d be looking to capture the details and tablescape set up before your guests enter, as well as a covered space large enough for the family group shots if it looks like the rain is set in for the day.

The speeches offer the best opportunity for me to capture your guests in a candid way. Everyone will turn their chairs to face the speaker – is there enough space for this to happen and for me to move between tables discreetly?

Create areas – if you’re having two separate tents for the ceremony and wedding reception, why not turn the ceremony PapaKåta Sperry or Teepee into a chill-out tent/gin bar for the evening? Providing a timeout area will make guests relaxed and provide some great photo opportunities for me.

Lighting – create a change of atmosphere through the use of lighting. Why not have lots of candlelight or the on-trend Edison bulbs and festoon lights for the wedding breakfast to create that warmth. Mix it up for the evening by using spotlights, up-lighters and a disco ball for the party! Continue the lighting outside – it will look amazing for a night shot!

Be unique – make your day as unique as you! There are no right or wrongs. Your PapaKåta tent is a blank canvas, so put your own stamp on it! This personality will shine through in your wedding photography.
