Our Tipis and Sperry Tents make the perfect winter wedding ceremony and reception space. Intimate, cosy and warm, they’re unique and atmospheric and can easily be transformed into a magical winter wedding wonderland.

If you’re newly engaged and thinking of making 2019/2020 the year you tie the knot, or you have just fallen in love with the idea of a winter wedding, you’re in the right place. In this post, we wax lyrical about the delights and benefits of holding your wedding or event during the winter months. Read on to discover practical tips to ensure you and your guests to party in comfort and warmth in the opulent surroundings and glamorous style of your own winter wedding tents.

Winter weddings can be utterly magical and romantic, but there are a few inevitable issues that go hand in hand with weddings held during the colder months. Rest assured if you are planning a winter wedding, there’s absolutely no need to worry; any challenges can easily be overcome with a few small preparations. The results will be all the more romantic for having taken these considerations into account.

Winter wedding furnishings & practical considerations:
With Sperry Tents and Tipis you will already have a unique backdrop for your winter wedding. Both tents have natural wooden poles and are made of genuine Sperry and Tentipi canvas. Add a few winter accessories from our Finishing Touches portfolio and your venue will be transformed into an intimate ceremony and reception space.

Nothing gives a more authentic winter atmosphere than an open fire. Adorn your Tipis with plenty of our smokeless log-burning fires throughout the dining area; as well as providing a warm cosy glow, they’re also a highly effective heat source in the Tipis.

Silent and hidden from view, our event heaters provide discreet additional warmth to our Tipi and Sperry Tents. We recommend all of our PapaKåta winter weddings and events have heaters; all of which are operated on a thermostat. This means that when the party heats up, your guests will all be kept cosy without breaking a sweat whilst throwing those moves on the dancefloor.

Our bespoke wooden subflooring provides an extra layer of warmth underfoot. It also gives the tents a sturdy, polished finish, perfect for when the ground is anything but solid.

A Festoon Walkway looks fabulous and offers a practical entrance, allowing guests to make it from carriages to your winter wonderland in style and comfort –  meaning no muddy heels! Meanwhile, inside, adorn your Sperry Tent or Tipis with twinkling fairy or festoon lights. They bring the canvas to life in the evening and are the perfect accompaniment to a starlit winter night sky.

The latest addition to the PapaKåta furnishings portfolio is our much anticipated ‘Wall-Flex’. Don’t be deceived by the less than glamorous name. Wall-Flex allows you to create a dramatic exterior perspective for your guests as they arrive. In addition, and much in the same way that the clear side walls of our Sperry Tents let the outside in, the Wall-Flex panels seamlessly open the Tipis up, allowing guests to gaze upon a magical winter wonderland whilst remaining warm and cosy inside – a backdrop of snow-covered mountains or falling snow optional!

Winter wedding décor & styling:
There’s something about a winter wedding that exudes elegance and timeless romance. The dramatic proportions of the Sperry Tents and Tipis offer unparalleled drama and create the ultimate enchanting winter wedding space. Add further decadence and texture to the rustic charm of the wooden poles and natural canvas with sumptuous reindeer hides, faux fur throws and candlelight, lots of candlelight!

On that note, don’t be afraid to shine…that is with your dress and décor. Whilst too much shimmer in the summer (not done perfectly) can look a little flash, the dark nights allow for a little extra sparkle and the intimacy of candlelight creates romance and atmosphere. Add a mirror ball and watch the flickering fairy light bounce off your Tipi or Sperry canvas as you party below.

One venue
If at all possible opt for one ceremony and reception space. Both our Sperry Tents and Tipis can be transformed from a ceremony space to the reception area in a matter of minutes. Alternatively, connecting tunnels can allow your guests to travel from your ceremony to reception without taking a step outside. Connecting tunnels also offer the ultimate reveal and can help with the flow of your day. One venue also means you and your guests remain cosy and warm without the need to go outside and prevents any traffic dramas in the case of bad weather.

Winter wedding colours
Decorate in rich, warm tones of berry red, burgundy and gold. Or embrace the jewel-like purple to add decadence, drama and wintery warmth. Natural greenery will add a whimsical feel and bring the outside in, whilst fragrant pine and eucalyptus will give your event a seasonal scent.

All in the detail
Keep guests warm with hot toddies such as gluhwein or liquored hot chocolate on arrival. Reindeer hides and throws on seating will provide comfort and warmth as well as an inviting Nordic feel. For the ultimate favour, pashminas always go down a treat and are the perfect gift that guests will use time and time again. Marshmallows to be toasted are the ideal excuse for family and friends to warm their cockles and put the world to rights around an open fire. For a truly decadent aesthetic, add tasty treats such as figs, berries, cheese platters and fondue; all perfect for a winter feast that your guests will appreciate.

Whether it’s a winter or a summer wedding, having umbrellas on hand is always a good idea. PapaKåta favourites Brolly Bucket have an array to complement your wedding colour scheme and style. Be sure to also check them out for their blanket hire.

The perfect Winter Wedding & Party Teepees

The perfect Winter Wedding & Party Tipis by Peter Leese Photography

We believe our Tipis and Sperry Tents are the perfect space for your winter wedding but don’t take it from us. Below are just some of the glowing testimonials from previous Brides and Grooms who have partied PapaKåta style in the winter months.

“It was my dream to have a truly unique wedding, in a unique location. I wanted a tent in the middle of winter so, of course, everyone thought I was crazy. Everyone that is but the amazing guys and girls at PapaKåta who worked tirelessly to make my dream come true.

We planned every detail meticulously (which meant a thousand phone calls to PapaKåta HQ), but despite all that planning, nothing could have prepared me for the first moment that we walked into that tent on our big day. It truly took my breath away. The fires were blazing, the lights were twinkling, the band was playing. I knew I had just walked into the party of a lifetime and that’s exactly what it turned out to be! One year on, our friends and family are still talking about it.”
Jess & Adam, PapaKåta Winter Wedding Bride & Groom, January 2016

“Everybody loved the tipis, the atmosphere was electric and I was quite gutted when it was all over! The service we received from everyone at PapaKåta was first class and it was obvious you all were dedicated to making sure the day ran as smoothly as possible. I wish we could do it all over again!”
Laura & Mark, PapaKåta Winter Wedding Bride & Groom, October 2017
