Shambles Kitchen
Here, our caterers of choice tell you a little more about their style of cooking and inspire you for your own wedding breakfast or birthday buffet…
This year we still see the influence of world street food in our wedding catering menus: Brightly coloured, tasty food served on sharing boards. They’re a great way of putting your personality into your menu and get guests interacting with each other. The recipes are refined to please the palettes of grandparents and children so you don’t need to go down the traditional chicken and potato route.
For this year, we’ve raised the bar by combining the best of street food with the theatre of open fire cooking. Inspired by my travels around Argentinian Patagonia, Brazil and South Africa, we provide a draw-dropping moment when guests arrive at the wedding reception to see the food being cooked over a fire. And it’s not just meat that tastes incredible over the embers of burning wood, it does wonders for vegetables too.
So, If you’re looking for a memorable wedding menu with lots of personality, from a company with 12 year’s experience on York’s most famous street ‘The Shambles’, come and have a chat with us and try some tasters.
Here’s a sneak peek of the gastronomic delights that you’ll be able to enjoy over the course of the Open Weekend: ENJOY!

Cherry Blossom Cakes
If it’s a show-topping cake or even a dessert grazing table you have planned, join us at the Spring Open Weekend and see and taste a whole array of sweet treats by Cherry Blossom Cakes…
I’ve got a wide range of designs coming up over the next two years, all-encompassing my love of textures, florals and bold colours.
Some couples are opting for all-white designs which are perfect for timeless elegance. This doesn’t have to mean plain designs as we can incorporate white on white texture for extra detail e.g. stencilling, royal iced piping, white flowers and white lustre for a little shimmer.
Floral elements are still proving very popular for romantic designs. This could mean having handmade sugar flowers on the cake itself (a lovely keepsake for years to come!) or having fabulous fresh floral decor around the cake either on hoops or in vases.
Metallics have been a ‘trend’ for a while now and I don’t see them going anywhere! From little flecks of an edible leaf, fully covered tiers or details painted with a metallic lustre, this looks beautiful when it catches the light – perfect for a PapaKåta Sperry tent with lots of natural light flooding in!
Dessert tables are a great focal point for your evening reception as guests can graze in between dancing and chatting. They can be displayed around your cake for greater impact, all colour coordinated to your wedding style or simply full of your favourite sweet treats! We also offer a full range of wedding favours with macarons, iced shortbreads and mini chocolate bars proving the most popular. These can have each guest name on to incorporate your place setting and favour in one.
