At PapaKåta we only use genuine Sperry & Tentipi products – we wouldn’t risk your event with anything less!

If you’re planning your wedding, party or event, you’ve probably been inspired by Pinterest and Instagram, googled until your mind boggles and if nothing else, been overwhelmed by the myriad of options offered to you by the UK’s events industry. But how can you ensure you’re going to get the very best for your own event and that the beautiful images you’re seeing online, really are going to materialise on the day and create the wedding or party of your dreams? In this blog post, we’re hoping to simplify the search, clarify a few misconceptions and help make your decision a little easier…

In PapaKåta’s year of conception in 2006, directors Amanda and Richard Monaghan made the astute decision to use nothing but the very best Tentipi products for their Tipi events. They wouldn’t use anything less for their own wedding, so why use imitation products on their clients’ events?! Furthermore, there was no way they would potentially risk PapaKåta’s then fledgling reputation and the trust instilled in them by their first ever clients.

As the proud and exclusive supplier of Sperry Tents in the UK and now in our 5th Sperry season, our happy clients and the beautiful events we’ve delivered are further proof that using the very best hand-crafted original products gives outstanding results and allows us to deliver our exceptional service.

We promise, get up close and you’ll soon see, feel and even hear the difference between the canvas, poles and structure of a genuine Tentipi Teepee/Tipi or Sperry Tent. Some imitation tents use PVC/ plastic lined canvas, metal poles and smaller proportions, all at a compromise to your event.

So what should you look for:

Features of a genuine Sperry Tent:

– Crafted by the same family from Massachusetts for the past 34 years, the Sperry features hand-sewn panels of authentic oyster-coloured canvas. The canvas is not PVC or plastic-lined meaning the aesthetic and feel is soft and natural.

– The genuine sailcloth canvas interior creates a beautiful warm natural light for stunning images, whilst the bright white exterior gives a crisp and eye-catching finish.

– The geometric design details by master New England sailmakers embellish the simplicity of the Sperry’s clean crisp lines.

– Wooden hand-milled poles with the assured Sperry by PapaKåta mark give a subtle nod to the Sperry Tent’s nautical heritage.

– Dramatic peaks and whimsical flags create a timeless silhouette.

– Open or clear sidewalls allow the interior to be flooded by natural light with panoramic views of your chosen venue.

– The height and space create a dramatic communal dining area, whilst carefully positioned up-lights add a warm oyster-coloured glow to the luxurious canvas.

Features of a genuine Tentipi Teepee/Tipi:

– Warm natural-coloured canvas combined with wooden poles creates a rustic yet inviting space.

– The timber from which our Tipi’s poles are sourced is only found in a narrow band of latitudes in the northern Scandinavian forests. As well as being stunning in their simplicity, they are unique in their natural properties by being comparatively light and supple whilst still being immensely strong.

– Flexibility is also a key property of the Tentipi design, allowing you to open the sides 360 degrees to expose panoramic views or batten down the hatches for a warm and cosy interior complete with open fire.

– Look for a green waterproof skirt- whilst this is a practical measure and prevents your Tipi’s actual canvas becoming wet and saturated, it’s also effective at creating stunning images as it allows the Teepees to appear to rise seamlessly from their natural surroundings.
