PapaKata couples across the UK could soon be allowed to marry outdoors
There are changes afoot, with a shake-up of the rules for couples getting married in England and Wales. Under new measures as part of the Autumn 2018 budget, the government has asked the Law Commission UK to relax its marriage laws to allow couples to marry outdoors and in unlicensed structures, including our stunning Sperry Tents and beautiful giant Teepees (although not specifically mentioned!!!).
Having a base in Perth Scotland, means we’re already well versed in the Scottish ceremony laws. With our Scottish PapaKåta couples taking full advantage and holding the most beautiful ceremonies in our Teepees and Sperry Tents against the backdrop of the stunning Scottish landscape. Up until now, UK couples were limited to legally marrying in churches, registry offices and licensed wedding venues. However, the relaxation in the law would mean couples can legally marry in a range of venues, including al fresco locations, from beaches to gardens, or inside our beautiful tents. We’re already getting excited about the possibilities and will be taking inspiration from our US, Australian and South African counterparts.
This news has been met with excitement from future brides and grooms, says outdoor wedding specialist Emily Braithwaite, founder of The Outside Bride blog.
“This is an amazing move forward and a boost for the wedding industry, as couples will have more flexibility to do what they want, where they want – creating the day of their dreams without the limitations that some conventional venues create,” she says.
Despite our excitement, we’re no novices to hosting ceremonies in our tents, with a few pioneering PapaKåta couples having said ‘I do’ in front of family and friends against the backdrop of our Sperry and Teepee canvas. Until now couples in England and Wales have had to negotiate the tricky landscape of the historical ceremony Laws in England and Wales, having to manage the logistics of registry office formalities, whilst planning the important bit – their personalised celebration!
Use our Finishing Touches Brochure to inspire your own ceremony space –denote your ceremony area with a Twinkling Teepee Baffle Backdrop, or say ‘I do’ under the romantic canopy of our Silver birch Ceremony arch.
