Floral wedding trends
Today’s PapaBlog welcomes Lucy MacNicoll Floral Design. Lucy’s floral creations feature beautiful, flowing and romantic aesthetics inspired by nature. Her innovative designs create fresh contemporary displays which remain timeless and elegant.
As well as introducing key trends for this season’s wedding flowers, in this post Lucy suggests ways couples can make the most of the space inside their Sperry tent and fresh arrangements to adorn their day. From bouquets, to centre pieces and a taste of what awaits you at the PapaKata open weekend 21st & 22nd March Lucy tells us more…
I am a huge fan of the beautiful Sperry tents. I was lucky enough to work on the launch with PapaKata and I am delighted to be dressing the tent at the Spring open weekend this year. The stunning sweeping canopy and festive flags create such a presence. The clear sides bring the outside in, creating an elegant and natural outdoor room for weddings.
The designs will feature a mix of Spring blooms including very pretty Anemones, Ranunculus and Muscari. The colour palette of blue, blush, white and green feels fresh and sophisticated. Stronger bursts of blue and green will be used in large arrangements to anchor all the displays and create impact.
Fresh features for 2015
Informal dining: The trend for rows of banquet tables is becoming a popular way to seat guests and this layout works perfectly in the Sperry tent. A long table will display pretty florals in glass troughs with a mass of candles, creating a romantic and feminine feel.
Hanging installations: The height inside the Sperry tent lends itself to wonderful tall floral designs and hanging installations – one of this seasons key trends. Hanging florals add drama and create wonderful focal areas. Floral curtains are also an effective way to create a back drop to the top table or a division between dining and the bar area.
We will be creating two huge floral chandeliers suspended from the wooden poles which will frame the dance floor, creating a striking focal area in the middle of the tent. Cascading flowers and foliage will add a touch of drama.
Wild ‘undone’ natural florals: The style of wedding designs is becoming much looser and ‘undone’. Brides are moving away from the structured neat domes of flowers and replacing them with more relaxed floral designs featuring cascading flowers, textured foliage and Fern. For added softness add trailing silk ribbon to your bouquet.
Warm mixed metallics: For years now candelabra’s and containers have been silver and chrome. Brides are now opting for a range of mixed metallics which looks so fresh. Rose gold, copper, bronze and gold are all in the mix and so feminine. These warm tones compliment this season’s rich wine hues perfectly.
Deep, rich colour palettes: Paired with soft pale pink and blush tones the Pantone colour of the year ‘Marsala’ is so romantic and rich. If you are a bride who prefers pastel shades consider adding just a few pops of claret to your designs to add depth. My favourite flower which does this perfectly, is chocolate ‘Cosmos’ which also compliments the ‘undone’ floral style.
Botanicals: Another key floral look will be addressed using luscious greens Ferns on mass. The top table will be dressed with crisp white linen and bottles filled with feathery ferns along with a hanging curtain Fern leaves.
I hope this has given you a flavour of what you can expect when you come along to the open weekend. I will be there on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday, so please come over and say hello. I would love to talk flowers with you and provide advice on selecting the best florals for your wedding!
