Floral trends and inspiration

With just three sleeps left before our Open Weekend, we’ve been chatting with the lovely Fiona Pickles from fabulous Firenza Floral Design about floral trends for 2014. Fiona and her team will be dressing our teepees with beautiful blooms, and sharing some design and style tips in live demo’s over the weekend. Here’s her pick of trends:

British Grown

More of us are interested in the provenance of our food and this local-sourcing is now coming through in brides’ flower choices. Fiona is very keen to encourage British growers and use as many British grown flowers as possible. Although there is a definite trend towards brightly coloured, mismatched wedding flowers, there still remains a HUGE demand for neutral, pale and pastel colours and in my opinion, there always will be.

Fantastic Foliage

Foliage has stepped up from the wings and into centre stage. Scented herbs –  eucalyptus, olive, rosemary, lavender, mint, lemon balm – in fact any herb possible, plus feather-like ferns and bright-green moss make wonderful rough-luxe centrepieces. Be brave and use alone, or as complements to your chosen blooms.

Heavenly Hydrangeas

These versatile petals continue to be popular for brides looking for elegant simplicity.  Clustered together, lorry loads of the heads make stunning cloud-like table runners, or sweet hanging pomanders.

Radiant Orchids

Well, it is the year of Radiant Orchid after all. Pantone’s colour of the year is influencing wedding flowers, with orchids coming through again. Try delicate purples and pinks in to be bang on-trend, or stick with white for a timeless look.

On-trend Pewter

This heavenly heavy metal is the floral accessory for this year. Forget shabby chic cream and move to metallics, with bird cages, vases and vintage goblets making the perfect vessels to show off your flowers.
